About This Product
Bacteriostatic Water for Injection, USP is a sterile, non-pyrogenic preparation of water containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol added as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is supplied in a 30mL multi-dose vial designed for parenteral use — including intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneous administration following the addition of solutions that require dilution or must be dissolved in an aqueous vehicle prior to injection.
The pH is 5.7 (range: 4.5 to 7.0). Water is chemically designated H₂O. The multi-dose vial allows repeated withdrawals to dilute or dissolve drugs for injection. Once punctured, the benzyl alcohol preservative maintains sterility for up to 28 days, after which the vial should be discarded.
